The story of Qing is inspired by a famous Chinese proverb from the final of the Four Books and Five Classics collection: Dream of the Red Chamber. An absolute classic in 18th Century Chinese literature, this novel explores the meandering emotions of two characters in a historical, political and poetic landscape, evoking a rare intensity. Rachel Convers, who imagined faces rising up from the waters, with the soft feminine figures of the possible loves. Strewn with fleur-de-lys and irises, they skim the opalescent surface of the river in their gracious, melancholic roaming.
